Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Heated Debates Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, the game developers launched a new playlist called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but features several notable adjustments:
- Every squad includes only eight real players, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
- Activities done by human gamers award full XP, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
- Only two maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Elements like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, as it gives additional choices for gamers seeking different methods to have fun with the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are upset.
Community Responses: From Fury to Support
"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," and another details everything they believe to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are players who have lives and don't play this title all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states another. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Criticisms and Player Feedback
Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times even longer for other modes due to the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to remove XP farming from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. Another labels this addition as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?
If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
