Esteemed Star Pat Finn, Famed For Parts in Friends and The Middle, Passes Away at the Age of Sixty.

Stateside performer Pat Finn, who appeared in popular television series including Friends, Seinfeld and The Middle, has died at 60 years old.

The skilled improv artist passed away at his residence in LA on Monday having undergone treatment for cancer from 2022 onward, as reported by media reports.

"He saw everyone as a friend - just potential friends he hadn't encountered," his family said in a statement.

They continued that he had "embraced life completely - with joy and exuberance".

A Prolific Television Career

His initial on-screen part was in the George Wendt Show in 1995, where he appeared as the titular character's brother.

He also had a recurring role on Murphy Brown in the latter half of the 1990s.

He starred as the character Joe Mayo in "Seinfeld" in the late 90s, portraying a host famous for delegating burdensome jobs to his guests.

During the late 1990s and early 2000s, he appeared as a guest star on several popular shows, including:

  • The King of Queens
  • Friends
  • That '70s Show
  • "House"

He was most recognized for playing Bill Norwood in "The Middle", appearing throughout eight seasons of the show over nearly a decade.

His film credits include "It's Complicated" and Santa Paws 2: The Santa Pups (2012).

A Life in Improv

Beyond his on-screen roles, Finn was a skilled improviser and also taught at the University of Colorado, where he was an adjunct professor.

He was involved with a six-person improv troupe named Beer Shark Mice.

"He taught, supported, and inspired numerous pupils throughout the years and it's nearly impossible to find a person who has anything negative to say about him," his relatives stated.

Offering condolences, colleague and actor Richard Kind said there was "not a more kind, gentle, or funny, down to earth person you could encounter".

"Always positive, helping you be funnier and better. An excellent dad and person," Kind wrote on social media.

Finn is survived by his partner Donna, three children, and his mother, father, and brothers/sisters.
