Followers Urge Arrest of Person Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of the pop star are calling for that a individual who jumped a barrier and grabbed the actress during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be detained or expelled from Singapore.
A widely shared video depicts the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing media personnel and lunging at Grande while the performers proceeded down a event pathway accompanied by onlookers.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the stunned star away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being escorted out of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram recently that he was "free after being taken in", though official papers showed that he was due to appear on Friday morning. It is unknown if he was charged.
History of Disruptions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram profile features clips of him disturbing other high-profile occasions, including rushing the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney show in June this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers event in the same location last winter.
"Measures must be taken taken against him as this is evidently a punishable act," commented an Instagram commenter, in a reply to a video Mr Wen posted of his behavior.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" one Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Voice Worry Over Ariana's Past Trauma
Several supporters criticized Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had revealed suffering from PTSD after a devastating incident at the end of her spring 2017 concert in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and wounding many.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said a further response on Instagram.
Some supporters also criticised security officers at the gathering for not being adequately prepared; while different individuals demanded social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Event Details
In videos shared widely, Grande appeared shocked when she was approached by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the premiere activities carried on uninterrupted.
Hundreds of supporters had congregated in a mass of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international debut in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had queued for as long as eight hours before it commenced.
The motion picture, to be premiered on November 21, is the second of a two-part interpretation of the acclaimed Broadway and West End musical Wicked, which centers on the unexpected bond between two distinct characters.
The production itself is a spin-off of the twentieth-century story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the good witch Glinda, was dressed in a light pink glittering gown at the event while Erivo, who portrays the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble decorated with roses.
They were accompanied by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of the previous year in the UK, and scored ten award recognitions, earning two for best costume and artistic direction.
