The Hit Drama Announced for 7th Season on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed crime series AC-12 is officially returning for its seventh season, announced by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-part season created by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, according to the production team.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the return, stating she was "so excited" about the series' return. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."
The last season wrapped up in 2021 with a finale that attracted over 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been widespread for some time, but confirmation only arrived recently.
New Challenges for The Team
The seventh season will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to production details.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most delicate case so far."
New Character and Complex Case
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer known for takedowns of organized crime, faces allegations of abusing his position to act as a offender.
Yet, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the shadows, the teaser suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had so many fans track the developments of AC-12 over multiple series and we are thrilled to be returning for a new season."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in this country was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston described appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "Obviously I'm so excited the show is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Compston and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor noted: "While anticipating the unit return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be working together soon."
"Pleased with the news and looking forward to those mercurial plot developments."
Show History
Line of Duty premiered in 2012 and became a highly successful television series of the past ten years, attracting guest stars such as Kelly Macdonald.
Broadcasters haven't revealed when the upcoming series will premiere.
The conclusion of season six brought the extended plot about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and producers said at the moment there were no intentions for additional seasons.
However, the network announced on Tuesday that a seventh series is now in development.
