The network's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
In October of last year, the late-night programming block saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the channel unveiled a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, evoking a animated take of a laid-back talk show. At a time often defined by dark humor, this show's sincerity struck a chord and turned it into a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Executive Acclaim
The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and championed its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about following this charming family go about their everyday routines.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to help comedy break out of its prevailing sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
Future Seasons
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially catalyze that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to enjoy the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
