Israelis have gathered across the country to remember two years since the Hamas-led attack on October 7th, 2023, as discussions advanced in Egypt over a resolution to the hostilities in Gaza.

The assault resulted in over 1,200 people dead and 251 others taken back to Gaza as captives. It was the uniquely most lethal day for Jews since the World War II.

Israel reacted by launching a armed campaign in Gaza which has claimed over 67,000 people, based on figures from the territory's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its numbers are considered trustworthy by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"The aggressive adversaries have struck forcefully, but they have not defeated us," the prime minister remarked on that day.

He also vowed to "realize all the goals of the war: the homecoming of all the captured, the removal of the Hamas administration and the assurance that Gaza will not present a risk to Israel".

Commemorative Events Across Israel

The Israeli government delayed state commemorations until mid-October - after the end of the festive season - but ceremonies still took place across the country on Tuesday.

A commemorative event for the relatives of Israeli citizens killed in the Hamas incident was held in the coastal city. Put together by the families themselves, it was aired across Israeli broadcast stations.

A period earlier, a moment of silence was held across the country.

Negotiation Meetings in Egypt

At the same time, Israeli and Hamas representatives convened in the North African tourist destination of the negotiation venue for a second day of indirect talks to examine the provisions of the agreement.

A prominent delegate involved in the talks said that an night meeting of mediated discussions began at 19:00 Cairo time.

The official explained the day's discussions finished without significant progress, due to conflicting views over the proposed Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas demands to ensure Israel does not recommence hostilities after the first phase of the deal.

He added that the talks are "difficult and have not yet produce any major advancement," but mentioned that mediators are striving to close the differences between the both parties.

Key Points in Negotiations

  • An enduring halt to fighting
  • The trade of the captives still kept by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of troops from Gaza
  • Measures for relief supplies distribution
  • Post-war governance of the area

Citizen Feeling

In Tel Aviv's public square earlier, 29-year-old a woman - whose sibling survived the incident on the outdoor event, where many attendees were lost their lives and dozens more were abducted by Hamas fighters - told: "Nowhere seems like home any longer and until each abducted person come back none of us will be secure."

"After we see all home returned, we can relax again. Then we can commence recover," she continued.

Near the leader's residence in the capital, people congregated to show their support for the families of the hostages. Israel says forty-eight stay in detention in Gaza, twenty of whom are considered to be surviving.

Protester a participant explained: "It's necessary do whatever arrangement needed for the captives to return. But we really want assurances that we will be secure."

Surveys now consistently show that around the majority of Israeli citizens desire the war to finish in return for the release of the abducted.

Palestinian Conditions

At the site of the gathering, those paying respects came together to pay their respects.

From the site, the noise of military attacks and shelling could be noticed just a brief space away in Gaza, where local people indicated the intense Israeli shelling continued.

In the urban center, air and artillery strikes were noted in the morning of that day in the west side neighborhood, Rimal and zone neighbourhoods and in the east side area of that sector, as well Shati refugee camp to the northwestern area.

"As the night comes, the fear comes with it," evacuated urban resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose 17-year-old son was killed by an Israeli air strike previously, shared.

"Me and my three children are fearful of the attacks. All the night we are sleeping together, holding each other, notably my little child who places his head on me all night."

"Every second we monitor the updates to see developments. And I'm afraid that this truce will not be completed and that the fighting will come back to us."

Health Situation

The healthcare center in Gaza City said it had accepted the bodies of six people by the daytime, including several who lost their lives in an Israeli strike in the south part area.

A different healthcare center in the south region of Khan Younis reported additional fatalities had been brought there. One of them was killed by Israeli troops while attempting to get help to the south, medics said.

The region's health ministry said 25 of the {territ
