The Three Lions to Launch Euro 2028 Campaign at City’s Home Ground

England’s men’s team will embark on their 2028 European Championship adventure at the Etihad Stadium, assuming they achieve the expected entry for a competition hosted across most of the United Kingdom and the Ireland.

The Etihad Stadium has not welcomed an Three Lions game since the spring of 2016, when Turkey were defeated 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is almost certain to stage the national team for their inaugural game on June 10, 2028.

The English side are scheduled to play their final two group matches at Wembley, but, should they win their group, their round of 16 match would be held at the Newcastle stadium. Securing the runner-up spot would mean starting the knockouts at Everton’s ground.

Championship Launch and Demonstration

The championship was inaugurated at an gathering in Piccadilly Circus on the previous evening. Senior figures from the tournament organizers and the host football associations were barracked as they arrived the location by approximately 50 activists, who urged the Israeli team to be kicked out from international football because of the Gaza crisis.

Placards were raised with slogans saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists called out: “Kick Israel out.”

Championship Timeline

The opening game of the tournament will be held at the Cardiff’s stadium in Cardiff, on June 9, 2028, a fixture that will involve the Dragons if they secure a place.

The national stadium will host the two semi-final matches and the championship match, which will be staged on Sunday 9 July with a commencement at 5:00 PM.

It is expected that an afternoon start, which will also be adopted for UEFA Champions League finals from the upcoming season, will cater to households and help engage a broader range of audiences.

Qualifying Teams

The Irish team are set to play their first game at the Aviva Stadium and Scotland would do the same at Hampden Park.

Each host nation’s squad will take part in the qualifying tournament; two automatic spots will be set aside for any that fail to qualify for the tournament through the standard process.

Stadiums and Playoffs

Aston Villa’s stadium and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium finalize the event’s nine venues. Every stadium will hold at least one knockout match, with the quarter-finals staged at the national stadium of each host.

The draw for the qualifiers will be held in the Northern Irish capital, which was dropped as a tournament location last year when it became clear the Belfast stadium could not be redeveloped in time, on a date in late 2026.

Official Statement

“It will be a competition for the supporters and a showcase of everything we love about the football – its fervor and ability to bring people together.”

Over 3 million tickets, a all-time high for a UEFA European Championship, are expected to be released to fans.
